OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services has resolved to issue a warrant of arrest on the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr, Tajudeen Sanusi, if he fails to appear before the committee on Friday 9th April.
Dr. Sanusi failed to appear before the committee on Thursday 8th April to answer questions on and help address the ongoing strike by members of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) as the resident doctors, among several other demands, called for the sack of the MDCN registrar for his alleged failure to demonstrate competence in the handling of the central placement of house officers.
According to the Chairman, House Committee on Healthcare Services, Mr. Tanko Sununu, the Committee meeting could not hold today because Dr. Sanusi, who is a critical stakeholder in the proposed discussions, did not show up.
The lawmakers thus resolved to summon him on Friday and issue a warrant of arrest if he fails to honour the summons. The federal lawmakers also appealed to the aggrieved medical practitioners to reconsider the strike action since the government was making necessary efforts to ensure that the concerns raised were being addressed.
The House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services also reiterated the need for the aggrieved resident doctors to come back to the negotiating table.
Recall that the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) had embarked on a nationwide strike one week ago over unpaid salaries, hazard and covid-19 allowances.
