OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives has urged telecommunications service providers to acquire software that will block pornographic images from circulating in the country.

The representatives also called om the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) to create significant barriers to the use of mobile networks and services, phones and other devices for circulation of inappropriate and immoral materials.

The resolve emanated from a motion titled “Call for Censoring of the Social Media” sponsored by Hon. Johnbull Shekarau (Plateau State, PDP) during today’s sitting of the House.

Debating the motion, Hon. Shekarau expressed worries that the hosting and posting of inappropriate materials with sexual, pornographic or homosexual contents, portend grave danger to the long-term survival of the nation’s moral values.

He also flayed the systematic impact of brain washing that is going on in the social media with respect to the erosion of moral values.

Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun who presided passed the motion courtesy of voice vote by members.

The motion was subsequently referred to the House Committee on Telecommunication for further legislative input.
