OrderPaperToday – The crisis which engulfed the Kogi House of Assembly has earned a collective suspension of the people’s representatives from their duties.

This is because the House of Representatives has taken over the functions of the Kogi State House of Assembly.

The federal legislators also declared the impeachment of Kogi speaker, Jimoh Momoh by five members as null and void.

The House also directed the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase to seal-off the Kogi House of Assembly complex until further notice.

The House decisions followed the adoption of the recommendations of a 10- man Committee,  led by the Deputy Whip, Pally Iriase,  to investigate the alleged illegal removal of the Speaker of Kogi State of Assembly.

The committee recommended that in view of the fact that the Kogi State House of Assembly cannot perform it’s Legislative functions due to the crises, it was necessary for the National Assembly to invoke section 11(4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to take over the legislative functions of the State House of Assembly pending the restoration of normalcy in the Assembly.

The House however urged members of the Kogi State Assembly to endeavour to quickly resolve their misunderstanding amicably and report back to the National Assembly.
