Refineries Probe: Reps grill Sylva, Kyari today, say appearance compulsory

The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on the State of Refineries in Nigeria has made compulsory the appearance of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Group Managing Director, at its Tuesday hearing.

The Committee had on April 21, 2022 summoned Mele Kyari; the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, and management of the country’s refineries for the third time.

Non-appearance of the stakeholders for the second time led to the postponement of the Committee’s investigative hearing scheduled for March 31, 2022; forcing the panel to summon the officials three weeks after.

Although the committee condemned the invitees for shunning the series of invitations, it has now threatened to invoke its legislative powers against them.

Airline Operators in the country had last week threatened to shut down operations beginning from Monday; citing the high cost of aviation fuel. The meeting was thus focused on finding a permanent solution to the issues raised by the aviation stakeholders.
