OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives has demanded details of how billions of public funds in the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) was spent.

The House through its committee on Aviation has also queried the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) over spending of internally generated revenue.

Recall that ORDERPAPER.NG had exclusively reported how the Aviation Ministry under former Minister Stella Oduah and the NCAA withdrew over N18billion from the BASA account in questionable circumstances.

Director General of NCAA, Usman Muhtar while defending the agency’s 2016 budget before the aviation committee was told to provide details of the use of the funds.

The Committee also told the agency that government will not accept wastage of public resources considering the dwindling state of the country’s economy.

Chairperson of the Committee, Nkiruika Onyejeocha said the mentality of collecting funds from the federal government and not remitting Internally Generated Revenue is highly unacceptable and must be changed.

The Committee questioned the N600 million budget for staff training in the backdrop of complains that staff performance was low.

In his response, Muhtar said “we train people base on need. If there is no need for staff to travel abroad for training they remain in the country.”
