OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has called criticized the land swap policy and called for a review of the Abuja master plan to guarantee rapid development of the city.
Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Herman Hembe expressed this position at an interactive meeting with the officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA weekend.
Hembe, who decried the continuous distortion of the Abuja master plan, noted that the land swap policy has failed to provide affordable housing and other infrastructure.
He accused the FCTA of not consulting widely with stakeholders before commencing the pilot scheme of the land swap programme in 15 districts.
The Committee lamented that developers of mass housing do not provide amenities, such as neighborhood centers, fire service stations among others.
It also decried the poor transportation system in the FCT, advocated for a better mass transit scheme and called for a better waste management system to guarantee a clean and healthy Federal Capital Territory.
