Section 84 (12): Reps react to Supreme Court judgment on Electoral Act

The House of Representatives has applauded the Supreme Court judgement striking out the suit by President Muhammadu Buhari seeking to void the provision of Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Amendment Act 2022.

Speaking with journalists over the weekend in Abuja, Spokesperson of the House, Benjamin Kalu, noted that the House was happy with the ruling, adding that the House was not expecting anything less because the judges were erudite scholars.

“These are people who have followed the trend of events and understand the separation of power and the mandate of each arm of the government. They understand that the separation of power is one of the tools of democracy and each arm focuses on the responsibilities of their mandate,” Kalu said.

2023: APC Denies Budgeting N6.5tr to Compromise INEC, Security Operatives, Buy Votes

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied budgeting N6.5 trillion to compromise the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security operatives, judicial officers and buy votes in the 2023 elections.

Spokesman of the party, Felix Morka, in a statement issued Monday, clarified that the document peddling the same, did not emanate from the party, and the party never authored any such document.

“Indubitably, the document is the handiwork of very sick elements of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a desperate quest for unmerited electoral advantage by attempting to smear our party with wrongdoing,” he said.

“I have been under pressure from you to leave the party and today, I have answered your call to leave APC and to actualise my re-election ambition. In the next 72 hours, you will see a platform that I will join and we will all move together,” the lawmaker said.
