OrderPaperToday – The newly sworn-in member of the House of Representatives for Lere federal constituency of Kaduna State, Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Munir (APC, Kaduna) has outed his agenda for his constituency at his swearing in ceremony on Wednesday.
He promised to continue where his predecessor who passed away in April had stopped.
Munir was administered an oath of office by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Mr. Chinedu Akubueze. The ceremony took place during plenary session as presided by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.
In an exclusive interview with OrderPaper Nigeria, the young representative said his primary focus would be security and agriculture.
He said: “I want to start by thanking my constituents for bestowing in me this honour of legislative functions to represent them in the remaining period that is left. I will like to use this opportunity to pray for the soul of the honourable member that passed away that led the way for the by-election that took place and to build up where he stopped. We don’t have much time but the little time that is left, we are going to hit the ground running and by the grace of God we shall achieve our priorities, our agendas and set goals.
“However, our main priority is security and then focusing on our constituents before the State and then the country at large. There are certain things we need to develop, like sectionalising all the security areas to become one unit. Be it the Police, Navy, the Army, Airforce, etc, we need to sectionalise that in one particular decision. There needs to be synergy amongst the security outfits so that we would be able to tackle the insecurity in my place.
“Secondly, I’m coming from an agricultural federal constituency so it is important that we go into mechanised farming and we have to advance. Another thing, we don’t just produce to sell but to add value to the produce and products that we sell and that will help in the social responsibility of our people. Finally, I will like to say thank you to the executive governor of Kaduna State, Mallam El Rufia Nasiru for mentoring and guiding me.”
Recall that the late Suleiman Aliyu had passed away in on the 6th of April, 2021, after a brief illness, thereby creating the vacuum that led to the conduct of bye-elections after three months as stipulated in the electoral act.
Mr. Munir, the former Director-General of Water Resources and Rural Development Kaduna State, contested alongside others and emerged victorious on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
