First-term Senator leads Niger NASS members with 38 bills

Niger State in North Central Nigeria has fourteen lawmakers at both chambers of the National Assembly. The federal lawmakers sponsored a total of ninety bills in the Senate and House of Representatives in the period under review (2019 – 2022)

Niger

Mohammed Sani Musa
The lawmaker representing Niger East Senatorial District is a first-term legislator and member of the All Progressives Congress ( APC).

In the last three years (2019 – 2022) since his election to the Red Chamber, he has so far sponsored 38 bills, including a bill seeking to establish the Federal Orthopedic Hospital, which has been passed into law. He also sponsored the controversial Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulations Bill 2019, which sought to regulate the use of social media in the country and led to public outrage.

Early 2022, he ran for the Office of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but withdrew at its National Convention for the current office holder, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Muhammad Bima Enagi
Representing Niger South Senatorial District, the lawmaker has 16 bills in the period under review, including a bill seeking to establish the National Rice Development Council, which the National Assembly has passed. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi
The Deputy Senate Chief Whip represents Niger North Senatorial District and has, since 2019, sponsored nine bills. Prominent among these bills is a piece of legislation seeking to establish the Federal University of Agriculture, Kontagora, which has been passed into law.

He joins the league of lawmakers who won’t be returning to the National Assembly, having lost his return ticket to the incumbent governor, Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State.

Abdullahi Saidu Musa
The lawmaker representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has far sponsored 19 bills in the period under review. A member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) , he is Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Finance.

Usman Abdullahi
Representing Lavun/Mokwa/Edati Federal Constituency, the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker has had four bills to his name since 2019.

Barwa Shehu Beji
A Representative of Paiko/Bosso Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, he has had three bills to his credit in the last three years.

Abdullahi I Garba
The lawmaker representing Kontagora/Wushishi/Mariga/Mashegu Federal Constituency has so far sponsored a single bill since the inauguration of the current House of Representatives. He has however, been a member of the Green Chamber since 2011.

In the period under review, about six federal lawmakers from the State sponsored no form of legislation namely:

He will not be returning to the Green Chamber, being the Governorship Candidate of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Salihu Salleh representing Magama/Rijau Federal ConstituencyThe All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) lawmaker has been a member of the House since mid-2021 when he won a rerun election for his constituency.
Abubakar Abdullahi Lado representing Suleja/Gurara/Tafa Federal Constituency
He chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Information Communications Technology (ICT).
Danjuma Kassimu representing Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency.
He replaced Jafa’aru Iliyasu, who died in December 2019
Umar Saidu Doka representing Shiroro/Rafi/Munya Federal Constituency.
He is a member of the All Progressives Congress.
