Limited Cash Withdrawal: “Suspend implementation, we need explanations” – Reps to CBN
The House of Representatives, on Thursday, told the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to suspend its latest policy which sets limits to cash withdrawals at Deposit Money Banks and other financial institutions.
The resolution, which followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by a member of the House, Rep. Aliyu Magaji, during plenary, is coming barely twenty-four hours after the Senate resolved to debate the new CBN policy next Tuesday.
Consequently, the House summoned the apex bank governor, Godwin Emefiele, to come forward to parliament next Thursday and explain the policy.
On Thursday, the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts laid its report on Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government that failed to render their audited accounts over the last eight years.
The report is titled, ‘Report of the Committee on Public Accounts on the Deliberate and Reckless Refusal by Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government to Render Audited Accounts for the periods 2014–2018 and 2019–2021 to the Auditor–General for the Federation and Approve the Recommendations Therein.’
MDAs indicted in the report laid by the Committee Chairman, Rep. Oluwole Oke, include the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (now Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), among others.
NDDC Board: Lawan, Omo-Agege berated over delay in confirming members
A group known as the Niger Delta Development and Peace Initiative (NDDPI) has slammed the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan over the delay to confirm nominees forwarded by President Muhammadu Buhari as members of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The statement signed by Victor Ordu on Wednesday, which also hit hard at the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege.
They urged the Senate President “not to allow himself to be used by selfish politicians to achieve political scores in the Niger Delta.”
2023: “Lagos has 953,803 PVCs uncollected” – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has disclosed that 5,676,858 Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) have been collected out of the 6,630,661 received in the state from 2011 to 2021.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC )in the State, Olusegun Agbaje made the disclosure at a Stakeholders’ Meeting on Collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) with the leadership of political parties, civil society organisations, and religious leaders in Ikeja, the state capital.
“It is pertinent to note that as at December 2, 953,803 PVCs were yet to be collected by their owners. These uncollected cards and the expected PVCs for fresh registrants , transfer or review from January to July will be available for collection in all INEC offices across the state from Monday, December 12,” he added.
2023 Budget: Delta Assembly pass N571.6bn proposal
The Delta State House of Assembly has approved the 2023 Appropriation Bill of N571.6 billion
This followed the adoption of a report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during the plenary session on Wednesday.
The budget, which showed an increase of N10 billion from the N562 billion earlier presented by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, comprises recurrent expenditure of N235.5 billion and capital expenditure of N336.1 billion.
