OrderPaperToday – The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Maj-Gen Ibrahim Yusuf, has assured that measures are being put in place to rescue a senior officer taken by bandits and forestall reoccurrence of security breaches at the academy in future.
It would be recalled that suspected bandits in large numbers had on August 24, 2021 attacked the NDA in Kaduna, killing two officers and abducting another senior officer.
Speaking to members of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Gen. Yusuf confirmed that the attack on the academy led to the killing and abduction of officers but everything would be done to ensure that it never happens again.
He also assured that the House would also be briefed on ongoing efforts of the military to rescue the abducted officer.
He also informed that the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt-Gen. Lucky Irabor visited the scene of the attack the day it happened and that many senior officers, including those retired, had also visited the academy in solidarity.
He said he would be traveling to Owerri in Imo State after presenting the report for the burial of one of the officers who was killed in the incident.
According to the NDA Commandant, “I assumed command of the academy on the 9th of July this year and barely six weeks later this unfortunate incident occurred. I am really delighted to be given this opportunity to be here to shed light about the occurrence and perhaps, more importantly, on ongoing efforts we are making to recover the abducted officer. And also measures the academy is currently emplacing to ensure that this not ever occur again.
In his reaction, Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos), agreed on the need for updates on the dastardly incident, especially efforts to rescue the abducted officer.
