OrderPaperToday – Both chambers of the national assembly have adjourned plenary to Tuesday the 12th on January 2016. This is to enable legislators break for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The senate adjourned shortly after the joint session with the House of Representatives to receive the 2016 budget from President Goodluck Jonathan.

But prior to the adjournment, the Senate passed an amendment to the 2015 budget to extend its lifespan to the end of March 2016.

The amendment was sponsored by the Senate Majority Leader, Ali Ndume (APC, Borno) with the suspension of relevant sections of the senate standing rule to enable the amendment scale through.

However, as stated by Speaker of the House of Representatives, the break is more of a working one as members are expected to begin work on the budget timeously.
