OrderPaperToday- Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria Ima Niboro has defended N230 million capital allocations to the agency before the Senate Committee on Information Chaired by Enyinnaya Abaribe.
Niboro clarified that the said amount is the entire capital budget of the agency and not allocated for the procurement of computers alone, as some in the Committee claimed.
He also said that the Agency received N15 million as Capital Allocation in 2015 and so it was impossible for a whooping N230 million to be allocated for only the procurement of computers in 2016.
“Our entire capital budget was put under one line, purchase of computers; I wish I was that lucky. But that is our entire capital budget: an agency that had a total capital of N15 million last year but we got N230 million as our capital budget.
“The mix up was from the budget office, so that is what had caused all these issues but we will sort it out,” he said.
In an interview with newsmen later, Niboro commended the professionalism of members of the committee as well as the information Minister Lai Mohammed.
He expressed satisfaction with the entire process of the budget defence saying that it was handled with great experience.
“The committee members are very tested professionals, the chairman and members of the committee especially people like Sen. Ben Bruce are very experienced.
“You saw their conducts of the proceedings, it was very professional. I came out feeling fully satisfied and I am happy that we have such a committee.
“I also want to commend the Minister of Information, he had done a lot of job putting together this whole activity,” he said.
The Committee which did not query any other item in the agency’s budget directed that the Agency submit a corrected version of its Capital allocation breakdown to the Secretariat.
