OrderPaperToday – The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of Muazu Sambo Hajia as minister designate after scaling the screening hurdles on the floor of the upper chamber.
President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier nominated Mr. Sambo as a ministerial nominee from Taraba State.
Mr. Sambo is to replace either of the former Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, who was sacked in September, or Mr. Sabo Nanono, the former agriculture minister.
While fielding questions from lawmakers during his screening on the floor of the Senate, the minister designate expressed disappointment about the state of the Mambila power project, saying it is an embarrassment to the country.
He attributed the major constraint of the project to the arbitration case against the federal government in Paris.
He vowed that if he is confirmed and taken to the ministry of Power, he would fix the challenges of the Mambila power project within one year.
“I don’t know much about the problems bedevilling the project but with my professionalism and integrity, I can fix the problems within one year,” he said.
Mr. Sambo Muazu, who is a building engineer by profession, attributed the problem of incessant building collapse in the country to desperate attempts by house owners to cut corners.
Responding to question on house deficit, he urged the federal government to partner with private sector to be able to build mass housing for Nigerians stressing that there is no way the government alone can do it.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after his screening, the minister designate called on Nigerians to put him in their prayers.
