OrderPaperToday: From the south-west geopolitical zone, House of Representatives members from Ekiti appear to have proven otherwise from what the State is popularly known for in terms of intellectual prowess.
This is due to their poor performance when compared to other states from the south-west region and other regions by extension.
Members from the State pulled only 5 bills constituting 2.2% of the 231 bills sponsored by members from the zone. Despite Femi Bamisile (APC, Gbonyin/Ekiti East/Emure) being a former Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, it appears that his legislative experience never came to bear since no bill is credited to him in two years. Likewise for two other members from the state.
The south-west performance per bills sponsorship also reveals that House of Representatives members from Ondo had a total of 15 bills constituting 6.5% of the bills sponsored by 9th Assembly Reps.
This is followed by their Ogun State counterparts who had 23 bills constituting 9.9%; while members from Oyo State pulled a total of 55 bills making 24.8%. Similarly, members from Osun State got 58 bills constituting 15.5%; and Lagos ended midterm with 75 bills making 32.5%, which is the highest in the region.
Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila pulled 19 bills, the highest amongst Lagos team as against his counterpart in the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who had no bill in the first half of the 9th Assembly. Also, ten of the twenty-four members from Lagos State are with no bill in same period under review.
On a global scale, the 71 representatives from the south-west zone pulled a total 231 bills, constituting 16.2 % of the total bills sponsored by House of Representative members in the first half of the 9th Assembly.
Of the 13 females in the 9th the House of Reps., the south-west geopolitical zone has four: Ogunlola Omowumi Olubunmi (APC, Ijero/Ekiti West/Efon) of Ekiti State who got 3 bills; Tolulope Tiwalola Akande-Sadipe (APC, Oluyole) of Oyo State with 1 bill; Adewumi Onanuga (APC, Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North) of Ogun State with 2 bills; and Taiwo Olukemi Oluga (APC, Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan) of Osun State with 10 bills and she also ranks tenth in the newbies category.
Mr. Gbajabiamila, (APC, Surulere I), who is Speaker of the House of Representatives; and Mr. Adesegun Adekoya Abdul-Majid, (PDP, Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun waterside), who is deputy minority whip, are the principal officers from the south-west with 19 and 4 bills respectively.
