OrderpaperToday – The Enugu State contingent in the National Assembly in the two year period under review of have collectively sponsored a total of 37 Bills.
While 22 Bills are from the Senate, the House of Representatives Members have sponsored 15 Bills. With the former deputy senate president and an ex-governor, the team could have delivered more on bills tally and productivity.
However, Sen. Chukwuka Utazi (Enugu North) leads the state’s Bills chart with 11 Bills. Sen. Ike Ekweremadu (Enugu West) closes in with 10 Bills. Notably, out of these 10 Bills, 9 have been read on the floor of the Senate for the first time. The Bill, which seeks further to alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to provide for the establishment of state police, is at the Committee stage, however.
Sen. Chimaroke Ogbonnia Nnamani (Enugu East), ex-governor of the state (May 2003 – May 2011), has sponsored just one Bill.
The 22 bills so far accounts for 3.1% of the total senate bills sponsored in the period under review.
On the contrary, members in the House though higher in number, have sponsored a fewer number of Bills. Most of the 15 Bills sponsored by them are centred on the establishment of educational institutions, medical centres and water-related matters. Their bills tally barely amounts to 1.1% of the total number of bills sponsored by the House of Representatives thus far.
Below is a breakdown of the Bills sponsored by the members representing their different constituencies in Enugu state:
Mr. Asadu Patrick Oziokoja (Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South) has seven Bills to his name. He is a fourth term member of the House.
Mr. Nnaji Nnolim John (Nkanu East/Nkanu West) comes second with five Bills. Two of Nnolim John’s Bills are at the Committee stage, while three have been read for the first time.
Mr. Toby Okechukwu (Aninri/Awgu/Oji River), the Deputy Minority Leader of the House, has sponsored two Bills.
Amadi Dennis Oguerinwa (Ezeagu/Udi) has one Bill awaiting Committee report.
