OrderPaperToday – Sen. Ekwunife Uche (PDP, Anambra-Central) has maintained the lead among the Senate team from Anambra State with 7 petitions to her credit while maintaining parallel performance with Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah (YPP, Anambra-South) on motions- each sponsoring four.
Together, the Senate team from the state has respectively contributed 5.6% and 2.1% respectively to the total motions and petitions sponsored in the first half of the 9th Senate.
The two female senators have demonstrated capacity in bills sponsorship and led Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, the only male senator. Also, the duo emerged first and second among their female counterparts in the Senate in terms of bills sponsored.
Anambra state team at the Senate is peculiar with two of her three senators being women- Sen. Stella Oduah (PDP, Anambra-North) and Sen. Ekwunife.
Stella Oduah who maintained the lead in bills sponsorship sponsored only one petition in the first half of the 9th Senate. Her singular petition was sponsored against Sterling Global Oil over alleged illegal oil exploration in a community.
Ekwunife, sponsored a petition against Rev. Uche U. Ibeabuchi on his appointment as a member of Federal Character Commission, representing her state. In 2020, she sponsored a motion for the digitization/automation of collection and remittance of withholding tax on bank deposits and dividends payments for enhanced federal government internally generated revenue.
Sen. Ubah pushed a motion on the urgent need to protect Nigeria’s indigenous airlines from extinction due to multiple frequencies granted foreign airlines in Nigeria.
