OrderPaperToday – In spite of several challenges facing the country, particularly the dreaded insecurity plaguing the Northeast region, Bauchi senators were missing in action on critical contributions in senate.

Records show that two of the three Senators from the state neither sponsored a motion nor petition in the first two years of the 9th assembly.

Only Sen. Adamu Bulkachuwa (APC, Bauchi-North) got 2 motions to his credit while his counterparts from the State, Sen. Lawal Yahaya Gumau (APC, Bauchi-South) and  Sen. Halliru Dauda Jika (APC, Bauchi-Central) scored zero on motions and petitions respectively.

Motions and Petitions Scorecard for Bauchi Senators

Only the performance of Adamu Bulkachuwa on motion sponsorship bailed the Bauchi State from a zero sum score on both key legislative functions record during the period under review.

Incidentally, Bulkachuwa’s motions were funeral-related- the demise of Hajiya Jummai Tafawa Balewa (wife of the Late Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa) and demise of Alhaji Muhammadu (Danmadami Sa’inkatagum), a former Deputy Inspector General of Police. He sought the immortalize of both deceased individuals.

Cumulatively, Bauchi Senate team only contributed 1.4% of the total motions and zero performance on petitions sponsored in the first half of the 9th Senate.

Recall that the Bauchi senators had pulled a low performance on bills sponsorship compared to their counterparts from other states during the period under review.
