Ondo State, in the south-west Nigeria, has a total of twelve members in the National Assembly, comprising of three senators and nine representatives in the House
Ondo State is one of the seven states created on 3rd February 1976. It was carved out of the former Western State. Ondo State is the 18th most populated state in the country and the 25th-largest state by landmass with eighteen Local Government Areas. Akure Is the capital of Ondo State, the former capital of the ancient Akure Kingdom. Ondo is nicknamed “Sunshine State” and produces 12% of Nigeria’s total output of Oil and Gas.
The state is currently governed by Lucky Rimisan Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Aiyedatiwa was sworn in on December 27, 2023, as the successor of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu who died as a result of cancer complications.
