OrderPaperToday – Graduates enlisted for national service may soon begin to enjoy life insurance as the House of Representatives has commenced moves to amend the law establishing the scheme.

In this regard, a Bill for an Act to amend the National Youth Service Corps Act 2004 to make it mandatory for the Service Corps to provide life insurance policy for Corp members has scaled second reading.

The Bill also seeks to embody certain provisions aimed at enhancing the welfare of corp members, enable them have access to loans after acquiring special business and commercial skill from the service.

Sponsor of the bill, Mrs. Joan Mrakpor said during Thursday’s plenary session that the essence of the amendment is to ensure that the aim of the NYSC programme is not defeated.

Those who spoke in support on the bill also canvassed for increment of the monthly allowance paid to Corp members.

  1. This is a good move. I pray that the bill is amended and becomes law very soon. This will make the corps members have access to loans to finance their business plan after service, in the event they are not em[ployed.
