OrderPaperToday – President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, has told the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Emmanuel Udom, that he is looking forward to working with him in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This was contained in a press statement signed by Mr. Ola Awoniyi, the Senate President’s special adviser (Media), which reported on the thanksgiving service and commissioning of Senator Akpan’s constituency projects on January 30, 2022.
Mr. Emmanuel’s work as Governor was complimented by Mr. Lawan, who was in Uyo at the invitation of his colleague, Mr. Akpan.
Mr. Lawan publicly asked Mr. Emmanuel to come join the APC.
He said “We are waiting for you to come and work with us Your Excellency. Oh yes! Why not? We want someone like you. And there is no shame in asking.
“We are asking for the development, unity, progress and growth of our country. It doesn’t matter who that person is.
He added: “And when you see something that is so good, you say something that is also good. And we have seen someone that is so good, so brilliant and we are saying that is a very good addition to the leadership quest for Nigeria.”
He further used the opportunity to congratulate the people of Akwa Ibom on their good fortune in having Mr. Emmanuel as their Governor.
He said “You have a governor that is focused, intelligent, and dedicated to bringing development to Akwa Ibom and the country as a whole.
He further stated that “Even if we do not share a platform, Your Excellency, the truth must be said: You have revolutionized Akwa Ibom for the better.
Mr. Lawan also thanked Mr. Akpan for providing excellent representation for his constituents in the National Assembly, noting that he is always concerned about them.
He noted that Mr. Akpan’s care for his people is reflected in the projects, and he never lets his political loyalty prevent him from making patriotic contributions in the Senate as a member of the PDP.
According to him, “As members of the National Assembly, we always put our People, Constituents and Senatorial Districts first.
“This is because we believe that we are accountable to our senatorial district and our people; we cannot do without our people. They voted for us.”
He described the three senators from Akwa Ibom as “distinguished individuals.”
“Today we are celebrating one individual who we do not share a common platform when it comes to politics but we share a common vision. We believe the Ninth National Assembly, particularly the Senate, has accomplished a great deal in terms of legislative interventions, and he informed Mr. Emmanuel that, Mr. Akpan authored the bill amending the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contract Act that was worked on by the Senate.
“You have sent someone to the National Assembly who is focused, patriotic, and who plays the game of ensuring that, regardless of who we are as politicians, our political dispositions, or our political parties, we have been working diligently and cooperatively with Mr. Akpan. In this Senator, you have a salvation of some of your promises.”
