OrderPaperToday-  Lagos State House of Assembly has called on the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni to beef up security in Ikorodu area to stem the tide of insecurity and to avert a Boko haram scenario going by the violent activities of cultists in the area.

In a resolution following ‘Matter of Urgent Public Importance’ moved by Mr. Saka Solaja (Ikorodu Constituency II), over the rivalry between two cult groups (Eiye and Aye confraternities), the lawmaker revealed that cultists have turned Ijede area of Ikorodu into troubled spot.

Solaja explained that adequate security measures would have to be put in place to save the area from being turned to a theatre of war.

While supporting the matter, Majority Leader of the assembly, Sanai Agunbiade (Ikorodu I) pointed out that “subversion of value system in the entire Ikorodu division has led to a situation where gangsterism has become the order of the day.”

Agunbiade recalled that the assembly once passed a law on cultism, but that it was not signed into law by the past administration, adding that a re-occurrence of insurgency should not be allowed to happen in Ikorodu.

Agunbiade said that “a law on cultism was passed in this House; I want us to revisit the law. We don’t want a repeat of Boko Haram in the state”, adding that the issue became worrisome as the police have failed to curtail the dastardly act of the cultists.

Also contributing, Rasheed Makinde (Ifako/Ijaiye 2) noted that Ikorodu was becoming another hell hole with constant clashes of cultist groups.

“I wonder why the Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Committee (CDCs) in the area have not been proactive,” he added.

Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa said Ikorodu has turned to a notorious area, citing incidents of kidnapping and cultism.

“We therefore call on the commissioner of police to do more in the area in terms of policing by sending his men to the area to curtail the menace of the cultists,” the Speaker stated.
