Chairman, assembly Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions and Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Adefunmilayo Tejuosho, had under Matter of Urgent Public Importance, intimated that Miss Ogechi was allegedly flogged on her bare buttocks and back by the school’s Principal and five other teachers for slapping the school Head Girl.
Tejuoso wondered why the school teachers and the principal should descend to such levels of physical assault- stripping a female student and beating her brutally.
She said: “Some parents, who have their children in that school have been calling me and sending photographs of the girls, urging the Assembly to look into the incident.”
The lawmaker, however, urged her colleagues to join hands with her to condemn the incident and to call on the state Ministry of Education to urgently investigate the incident.
Other lawmakers, who reacted to the matter, condemned the school teachers and the principal for the brutality, just as the Speaker Mudashiru Obasa explained that in as much as the assembly doesn’t condone Miss Ogechi’s act, it won’t support brutality.
“Although we do not condone what the junior student did to her senior, all the same we are not in support of that kind of merciless beating.
“We know that the Ministry of Education has stepped into it but we want them to ensure that their findings get back to House for necessary action on the matter.
“The Ministry should instill proper discipline in students to make them better children in the society,” Obasa added
