OrderPaperToday – The Kwara State House of Assembly has approved the suspension of Chairmen of 8 Local Government Councils in the State by Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed over allegations of carrying out recruitment exercise without due process.

The approval by the Assembly was sequel to a letter from the State Governor seeking the approval to suspend the affected Chairmen.
The letter was read by the Speaker Dr. Ali Ahmad on the floor of the assembly.

The affected Council Chairmen are those of Moro, Irepodun, Asa, Oke-Ero, Patigi, Ilorin South, Ekiti and Baruteen Local Government Councils.

The assembly also mandated its Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the allegation against the officials and report to back within 7 days.

The Speaker explained that it was unlawful for the Council Chairmen to carry out recruitment exercise without the approval of the State Local Government Service Commission.

In another development, the assembly delayed approval of a proposed 7years N20bn bond to be accessed by the State Government.

The lawmakers insisted on consulting with their constituents on the matter before taking a decision because the assembly would not be stampeded into taking a decision that would affect the wellbeing of the people of the State in an adverse manner.
