The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Uba Sani has declared his intention to run for the governorship of the state in the forthcoming primaries.

Senator Sani while declaring his interest on Tuesday, in Kaduna, said he stood in good stead to sustain the vision and mission of the incumbent governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The lawmaker who was first elected to the National Assembly, in 2019 was a Special Adviser on Political Matters to Governor El-Rufai, both of whom belong to the same All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the legislator, “our dynamic Governor has changed the face of Kaduna State and made it the envy of all. His transformational leadership and developmental drive has redefined and raised the bar of governance.

The high standards he has set are both a source of pride and a challenge to we his associates and loyalists.”

Sani who described himself as Mallam El-Rufai’s understudy praised the governor as his leader and mentor, adding that he is ready to take the achievement “to higher levels for the collective good and the best interest of the good people of Kaduna State.”

“I am Mallam El-Rufai’s understudy. I have worked closely with him. I understand his vision and mission. I stand in good stead to sustain his vision and mission.”

“The huge challenge before us is how to sustain and build on Mallam El-Rufai’s legacy of outstanding public service and impact. This is because a reversal of these gains in the post-2023 era will be a huge tragedy.

Our people have witnessed selfless and impactful leadership and cannot settle for anything less. It is for this reason that I am humbly stepping forward to carry the banner of continuity.

As our beloved Governor prepares to gloriously depart the office in May 2023, the onus is on us all to continue and consolidate his achievements and legacy. And as the popular saying goes, you can not coach football if you were not a footballer yourself.

It is only fair and natural that we have someone who understands the El – Rufai philosophy; one who has carefully understudied him; a person who has been in the trenches with him, to continue from where he will stop on May 29, 2023,” the Senator declared.

Senator Sani has a great hurdle to cross if he will gain victory in the race for the number one seat at the Kashim Ibrahim Government House. He is likely to face other political heavyweights across party lines who have equally declared interest in the job.

While he will be slugging it out with fellow APC aspirants like Mohammed Abdullahi, the State’s Commissioner for Budget and Planning; he is likely to also contend with his predecessor at the Senate, Shehu Sani of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

42-year-old Abdullahi was until 2021, Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s Chief of Staff, and has been one of the governor’s top lieutenants since 2015.

Activist Shehu Sani, on the other hand, was the former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the Senate before he fell out with the Kaduna Governor; leading him to lose his seat.

The activist who has promised to “clean all the dirt they brought in the state in the name of development” if elected, also has Isa Ashiru, the PDP 2019 governorship candidate in the state to contend with.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had in February, scheduled Monday 4th April 2022 to Friday 3rd June 2022 as the window for conduct of party primaries, including the resolution of disputes arising from them.
