OrderPaperToday – Ahead of the 2023 general election, Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa of Delta State has been announced as the running mate to the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
Senator Okowa beat two of his colleague-governors; Nyesom Wike and Udom Emmanuel from Rivers and Akwa Ibom States respectively to emerge as the party’s Vice Presidential candidate after comprehensive consultations with various organs of the party.
Okowa who is currently a second-term governor in Nigeria’s South-South State of Delta, was a lawmaker in the 7th National Assembly (2011 – 2015); where he represented Delta North Senatorial District.
Having emerged as the presidential flagbearer of the opposition party on May 29 2022, the weeks following had been trailed by speculations and intrigues on who would be running mate to the former Vice President.
With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline for political parties to submit the final list of candidates for the general elections just about twenty-four hours away, the PDP has become the first major party in the country to announce its Vice Presidential candidate.
