OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives has urged the executive arm of government to implement the free meal programme promised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to all primary and secondary schools in the country.
The resolve by the House emanated from a motion titled”Call on Government at all levels to make adequate security arrangements for the protection of students in primary and secondary schools” raised by Mr. Yakub Balogun during Thursday’s plenary session.
The motion had only urged the military high command and joint special military task force to work with the federal ministry of education and the national parents teachers association of Nigeria to have a comprehensive surveillance strategy in public schools.
The motion was informed by the incident of 15th April, 2014, when Boko Haram had abducted over 200 school girls at the federal government girls secondary school in Chibok community of Borno State while writing their final examination.
But the motion was amended by Minority Leader., Mr. Leo Ogor to include urging the APC led government to implement the free school meals it promised during the campaign.
The House carried the motion as amended.
