OrderPaperToday – Two frontline civil society organizations in Nigeria, FixPolitics Initiative and OrderPaper Advocacy Initiative, have signed a memorandum of understanding on collaborative projects to improve citizen enlightenment and engagement, particularly with spotlight on legislative accountability and transparency.

FixPolitics Initiative is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with a mission to elevate the Office of the Citizen (OTC) to its rightful place in our nation and develop a political class of servant leaders across the length and breadth of Nigeria.

OrderPaper Advocacy Initiative is a civic tech organization registered under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to embark on policy-related engagements and interventions, especially in the legislative space that expand the frontiers for good governance and deepen democratic practice(s).

Realizing the importance and impact of partnerships, both organizations put pen to paper on Wednesday to advance mutual and collective objectives which centre on the need to jointly promote transparency, accountability, and inclusion in Nigeria’s legislature, put a spotlight on the activities and performance of Nigeria’s federal Legislature and Legislators and embark on awareness and sensitization efforts on the work of the legislature and how citizens can hold their lawmakers accountable.

Other components of the partnership are to jointly engage the Legislature in advocacy activities and programmes and to jointly identify, support and prepare trustworthy Nigerian youths that are willing to contest parliamentary elections in the future.

At the signing of the MOU on Wednesday, Executive Director of FixPolitics, Mr. Anthony Ubani said “building effective partnerships is essential for efficiency and impact. Collaboration strengthens our capacity and ability to achieve our mandate and deliver results.” He added that “this partnership with OrderPaper Advocacy Initiative will, among other things, enhance our ability to help us reach a greater number of citizens in our effort to empower them with the right information designed to aid them in making informed choices in the exercise of their franchise. It will also add value to our programming and advocacy in legislative and electoral reforms.”

In his remark, Mr. Oke Epia, Executive Director of OrderPaper Advocacy Initiative, stated that “there is no better time than now for all actors to synergise to improve our democracy for the common good of the citizens.”

He commended FixPolitics for contributing her quota in improving Nigeria’s democratic landscape through her initiatives which cut across all demography.

Gracing the historic event virtually were Professor Remi Soniya, Coordinating Co-Chair of #FixPolitic’s Work Study Group 3 (Political, Constitutional and Electoral reforms) and an erudite scholar, former presidential candidate, as well as advocate of good governance; and Mrs. Bunmi Lawson, Co-Chair of #FixPolitic’s Work Study Group 3, and an astute and accomplished banker and community mobilizer.

In her reaction, Prof. Soniya expressed optimism that the pact between FixPolitics and OrderPaper would yield fruitful results on legislative accountability in no distant time.

Similarly, Mrs. Lawson lauded the MoU and stressed that that it would help achieve the vision of a better Nigeria for all citizens.
