OrderPaperToday – The Federal Government has made a U-turn on the proposed unbundling of the Nigeria Postal Services (NIPOST).
This came to the fore when the Senate Committee on Communications commended the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ibrahim Pantami, for the allocation of N200 million to the Service in the 2022 budget proposal of the ministry.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Oluremi Tinubu (APC, Lagos Central), while briefing newsmen shortly after a budget defence session at the National Assembly on Tuesday, disclosed that efforts are in top gear to revive the organization.
Recall that OrderPaper reported that NIPOST was given zero allocation over the expected unbundling of the agency.
She also stated that laws are being proposed to give it the autonomy it requires to function effectively.
“NIPOST as we speak is supposed to be doing very well. If they are well built up, they can also have a bank where transactions can be done”, she said, adding: “why would we not try to revive what NIPOST can do for us?
“We look forward to a viable NIPOST that Nigerians would be proud of.”
