OrderPaperToday – Senator Fadahunsi Francis Adeniga, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has said that without the intervention of God COVID-19 would have ravaged the country.
Senator Fadahunsi, who spoke with OrderPaper Nigeria during the week, downplayed the interventions of the National Assembly in curtailing the virus outbreak, stressing that it was God that delivered Nigeria from the COVID-19 pandemic and all other viruses that crept into the country in the past.
According to him, “without God, National Assembly interventions on Covid-19 is nothing, because we are very careless it’s not National Assembly, it’s God that saved us from COVID-19, ebola and all the viruses.
“Our medical equipment and facilities to deal with all these outbreaks are all dilapidated. Nigerian Government has not spent enough money to put things in place to guide against all these things.
“We always go to China, we don’t have any factory that is manufacturing medical equipment. To the extent that were are importing needles and syringes. We have a lot of Nigerians who are experts and are excelling in other countries”.
The Lawmaker called on the Federal Government to put measures in place to encourage medical personnel to develop the sector.
Sen. Fadahunsi said further: “There is no amount of money we (legislators) vote that can take care of our medical equipment; unless medical personnel are encouraged to stay in the country and are given enabling environment to excel.
“As parliaments, we have tried. The pandemic came and through serious prayers of Nigerians who believed that Covid-19 can never conquer them, God has turned things around.”
He however commended the Boss Mustapha-led Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 for rising to the occasion and prudent management of resources.
“The NASS leadership and the committees on Health were always calling PTF for clarification and they (were) always responding. That was why we’re able provide enough fund” Sen. Fadahunsi said.
The Osun Senator further mentioned that all sectors of the country require legislative interventions.
He mentioned that borrowing that would not impact on the masses positively should be discouraged.
“Unless the borrowings are used to better the lives of the masses by creating jobs for youths, getting almajiris that are easily recruited by boko haram into schools.”
He emphasized that electronic transmission results is key if the country’s elections process must be free from manipulations.
Sen. Fadahunsi further stated that security challenges should not have come at all if the Federal Government is serious about securing the country.
He further stressed that the economy needs serious attention now, so that whatever we are raking in as revenues must not be wasted and must not be stolen.
