OrderPaperToday –     National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mr. Olisa Metuh has been arrested by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).  He was picked up at his Drive One, Prince and Princess Estate, Abuja.

According to Metuh’s Special Assistant, Mr. Richard Ihediwa who confirmed the arrest of the PDP big wig, four operatives of the EFCC arrived Metuh’s Abuja home unannounced in an unmarked white Toyota Hiace bus early this morning and were given unhindered access into the premises.

The EFCC officials were said to have invited Metuh to accompany them to the Commission’s headquarters at Wuse 2 Abuja and upon enquiry on the reasons for the invitation, the officials stated that “he has some issues to clear with the Commission”.

Ihediwa said: “Upon enquiry on the reasons for the invitation (by the EFCC officials), the officials stated that he has some issues to clear with the commission. They also said he was not being arrested but (has been) friendly invited. The operatives, four in number, came in a White unmarked Toyota Hiace bus.”

He added that “While details of why Chief Metuh was invited is yet to be made public by the commission, it could be recalled that severally, Chief Metuh, as the mouthpiece of the opposition party had alerted in various press conferences and statements that he has been under threat and that the ruling party and the government have been very uncomfortable with his stance.

“The latest being the outburst and threats by the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief John Oyegun in reaction to Chief Metuh’s criticisms of President Buhari’s widely criticized response on government’s disobedience of court orders, during the last Wednesday’s Presidential Media chat.”

However, there are strong indications that Chief Metuh has been arrested for allegedly collecting about N400m from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sabo Dasuki (rtd.) and a company he was said to have interest in is also under investigation.

According to reports, the N400m he allegedly collected from Dasuki was purported to be part of the funds meant for the procurement of arms and ammunition for the fight against Boko Haram in Nigeria’s North-East.

Upon enquiry, Chief Metuh had agreed that he collected undisclosed sum of money from former President Goodluck Jonathan; used for carrying out unspecific work as the Spokesperson for the PDP in the Jonathan administration.

As at press time, he stated that Metuh was still being held at the EFCC headquarters while his lawyers are making frantic efforts to reach him.

Earlier on Monday, the PDP Publicity Secretary mentioned that he had yet to be invited for questioning by the EFCC and wondered why the media made assertions about the plan to interrogate him.
