OrderPaperToday – Senate president Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara have felicitated with Nigerians on the occasion of Easter celebration.
Saraki in a statement by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said it is imperative for all Nigerians to borrow a leaf from the humility and sacrifice exhibited by Christ when he yielded his life for the redemption of mankind.
The senate president commended the Federal Government for the significant increase in the level of security across the country in recent times, and called on the security agencies to redouble their efforts to once again ensure a smooth and hitch-free Easter celebration
Speaker Dogara on his part called on Christians to use the Easter period to pray for the restoration of peace and economic stability in the nation.
A statement by his special adviser on media and public affairs, Mr. Turaki Hassan, described Easter as a period of sacrifice and service to God and country and urged Nigerians to emulate the life of Jesus Christ who laid down his life for mankind.
He said: “Times are hard, our country is going through difficult times occasioned by economic downturn. Government alone cannot do it.
“Our contemporary challenges require that we persevere in our prayers for leaders at all levels and the country for divine wisdom to enable us surmount them.
“This time calls for more patience, sacrifice, prayers and a renewed hope in the Nigerian nation.
“We have passed through even more difficult situations before, this too shall pass away, so long as we remain steadfast in our prayers for leaders and the country,” the speaker stated.
