OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives ad-hoc committee probing recent raise in the subscription fee of satellite television provided by DStv/Multi-Choice has requested the Nigeria Centre for for Disease Control (NCDC) to carry out a COVID-19 test on the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. John Ugbe.
The committee made the call on Wednesday following the failure of Mr. Ugbe to appear before it on the ground that he developed symptoms of the virus upon arriving Abuja for the hearing today.
The committee accordingly resolved that Mr. Ugbe appears before it in four weeks.
These resolutions were made following the non-appearance of the DStv and GOtv boss at the hearing.
According to chairman of the committee, Mr. Unyime Idem (PDP, Akwa Ibom), the CEO of Multichoice Nigeria sent in a letter that he would not be available at the hearing having developed symptoms of COVID-19.
“He also called me on phone this morning to notify me about the same issue”, said Mr. Idem.
Members of the committee however frowned at the excuse made by the CEO. “For not even sending a representative to the hearing shows a clear negligence. He should be forced to appear. They cannot continue to cheat Nigerians”, said Mr. Ossy Prestige.
Recall that the House in a motion deliberated upon on the floor, had set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the recent hike in DStv subscription fee and the need to for the company to implement a Pay-As-You-Go subscription regime.
