OrderPaperToday – Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu has decried what he described as the ‘compromised’ anti-corruption crusade of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Deputy Senate President specifically condemned the continued detention of the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Olisa Metuh by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged corruption.
A statement by Ekweremadu’s Media Adviser, Uche Anichukwu, said a selective anti-corruption war does not bode well for democracy in the country adding that the Buhari administration is trampling on the rule of
law thereby making Nigeria descend into authoritarianism.
According to Senator Ekweremadu,”the continued detention of the PDP mouthpiece was an attempt to gag the opposition and therefore unhealthy for democracy.”
He added that: “An anti-graft trap that catches only members of the opposition and those with axe to grind with the government of the day is compromised.”
