Onuigbo said the plan is towards achieving the Paris Agreement on which Nigeria targets a 20-45% reduction in greenhouse emission between 2015-2030.

Other components of the plan according to him include reduction in current power transmission losses and achieving 2% per annum energy efficiency among others.

On the need for adequate sensitization on climate change, Minister of Information, National Orientation and Tourism, Lai Mohammed said his ministry is ready to partner with some others like Environment, Aviation and the Nigerian Metrological Agency (NIMET) to create more awareness.

Mohammed also said government would develop closer relationship with media organizations in achieving the Paris Agreement.

On his part, Director General of NIMET, Anthony Anuforom called for government intervention on desertification and flooding in the northern and southern region respectively.

Anuforom said the reduction of water level in the lake chad may not be unconnected to desertification in the north.

To this end, he advised that more awareness on climate change be made in local languages to salvage the situation.
