Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha has described the season of Christmas as a period of sober reflection to express brotherly love and share the virtues of forgiveness and tolerance towards one another.
In a message to mark the 2015 Christmas, the Imo State PDP Governorship Candidate in the 2015 general elections reminded Christians and indeed all persons of goodwill that the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ which the season represents, offers a unique opportunity to extend love to families, friends, neighbours and indeed all Nigerians from all works of life.
Describing forgiveness as a fundamental ingredient of love, Hon. Ihedioha noted that the actions of citizens and leaders, particularly those in authority determines either making or marring the destiny of Imo state and indeed the country and therefore enjoins all to imbibe the virtue of forgiveness towards ensuring peaceful coexistence.
Chief Ihedioha bemoaned the bleak celebrations in Imo State owing to the avoidable hardship the citizens are subjected to. He therefore called for restraint in the interest of the state and urged citizens to eschew tendencies that promote hopelessness, intolerance of dissenting views and inclinations, noting that the need for sober reflection during Christmas is a timely opportunity for leaders and followers alike to reflect on the state of affairs.
He congratulated Christian faithfuls across the state and Nigeria in general and enjoined them to share the joy of the season with all persons irrespective of religious beliefs as the birth of Jesus Christ brought redemption to the world without discrimination against anybody or group of persons.
