OrderPaperToday- Center for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has released a schedule to mark the 3rd anniversary of the Passage of the National Disability Rights Bill.
A press release by David O. Anyaele, Executive Director of the Center said the activities will hold from 18-20 January, 2022 at the National Human Rights Commission Conference Hall, Maitama Abuja, by 10am daily.
The Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Bill 2018 was assented by the President on the 17th of January 2019.
The theme of the anniversary is “2023 General Elections and the Future of Nigerians with Disabilities” and it is supported by Ford Foundation.
The statement stated that the event is a week-long activity aimed at raising awareness of the Act’s accomplishments, taking stock of stakeholders’ efforts to ensure the Act’s full implementation, and assessing the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities’ performance in carrying out its responsibilities for education, healthcare, and the protection of PWDs’ Social, Economic, Civil Rights, and other rights.
The guest speaker is Prof. Ayandiji Aina, Provost, College of Post Graduate School, Babcock University. Other special guest at event include: Prof. Yakub Mohamed, Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Mr. James Lalu, Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD). Participants expected at the event include members of the Opinion Leaders within the disability community; line Ministries, Departments and Agencies, International Development Partners, organized private sector, civil society organisations, and the media amongst others.
CCD is the premier organization of, and for persons with disabilities that works to promote disability rights, independent living, inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities in development agenda.
