Buhari writes Senate over confirmation of officials for NERC, NDIC, and 2 new agencies

OrderPaperToday – President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, sought the Senate’s confirmation for four commissioners appointed into the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The nominees are Dr. Yusuf Ali (North Central), Engr. Chidi Ike (South East), Mr. Nathan Sheti (North East) and Mr. Safe Atene (South South).

As conveyed in a letter dated 27th January 2022 and read at the beginning of plenary by the Senate President, Buhari said that the request was pursuant to Section 34 (2) of the Electricity Power Reform Act.
In another letter, President Buhari is also requesting confirmation of five nominees forwarded to the Senate as Executive Directors for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority in accordance with Section 41 (2) of the Petroleum Industry Act, (PIA) 2021.
They include Francis Alabo Ogari (Hydro Carbon Processing Plants, Installations, Transportation and Infrastructure), Dr. Mustapha Lamorde (Health, Safety of Environment and Community), as well as Badhiru Kuliat (Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund).

Others are Badhiru Sadiq (Services and Operations), and Dr. Zainab Gobir (Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning).
He said their appointment was to fast-track effective take-off and decision-making process at the newly established Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
Similarly, the President requested that the Senate confirms the appointment of Mrs. Emily Chidima Osuji as Executive Director of Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation.
This, according to him was in compliance with Section 5 (4), of Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation Act 2010.
He expressed hope that the Senate would expeditiously consider and confirm the nominees.
