OrderPaperToday – President Muhammadu Buhari has given indication that he would soon send the 2016 budget bill to the national assembly.
In this regard, the Presidency has said it would transmit the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) to the legislature some time next week.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters , Sen. Ita Enang disclosed this in an interaction with newsmen Friday.
Reacting to fears that the president may have breached the law, Enang said that the presidency had not flouted the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, insisting that President Muhammadu Buhari was acting within the law.
He said the Act stated that Federal Government “shall not later than four months before the commencement of the next financial year, cause to be prepared a Medium-Term Expenditure Framework for the next three financial years”.
Assuring that MTEF and FSP would be transmitted to the National Assembly next week, Enang said that the transmission would be immediately followed by a correspondence for the president to state exactly when the budget would be presented.
