OrderPaperToday – The British High Commission in Nigeria today failed to appear before the House of Representatives’ Committee on Diaspora investigating the purported deportation of over 29,000 Nigerians from the United Kingdom.
It would be recalled that the House of Representatives had directed the relevant Committee to liaise with the relevant bodies to ascertain the rationale behind the deportation.
Speaking during the first sitting of the Committee, its chairperson, Hon. Rita Orji said the Committee would have loved to hear from the British the circumstances surrounding the matter.
According to Hon. Orji, “we want to talk to the direct persons affected to know the modalities and moralities behind their deportation”
The Committee which did not give a new date for fresh summons however pledged to represent the views and aspirations of Nigerians in the diaspora.
