The lawmaker representing Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State, Honourable Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has emerged as the Deputy Speaker of the Tenth House of Representatives.
Kalu, a second-term Member of the Green Chamber emerged as a Presiding Officer of the House, following his unopposed nomination as the only Aspirant for the seat.

As with the new Reps Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, the Abia lawmaker who was Chairman of the House Committee on Media had received the backing of his party; the All Progressives Congress (APC), to emerge as Presiding Officers of the House.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) zoned the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives seats to the country’s North West and South East geo-political zones, respectively.
The Abia lawmaker had, in May 2023, been recognised by OrderPaper, Nigeria’s foremost independent parliamentary monitoring organisation bridging the gap between citizens and the legislature, as one of the best-performing lawmakers in the Ninth National Assembly. He was recognised alongside Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and 16 other lawmakers drawn from the Senate and House of Representatives for their valuable contributions to lawmaking in the last four years.
