OrderPaperToday – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus of the House of Representatives has slammed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for asking its detained National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh to return N400m arms money from former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki allegedly traced to him.
The caucus also issued a 48 hours ultimatum to the EFCC to charge Metuh to court of jurisdiction rather than his current detention.
The PDP lawmakers said only the court of law can compel the party’s spokesman to return the cash and accordingly asked the anti-graft agency to charge Metuh to court without further delay.
Minority leader of the House, Mr. Leo Ogor in company of other PDP lawmakers made these positions known at a news conference this morning in the National Assembly.
The Caucus led by the House minority leader, Leo Ogor gave the ultimatum on Tuesday at a briefing in Abuja.
It said while they are not in support of any corrupt practices, rule of law should be respected by charging Metu to court instead.
It further stressed that the detention of Metuh by the EFCC is totally unacceptable by them.
According to Ogor, ”the EFCC lacks the power to tell anybody to refund any money. It’s the duty of the court”.
The Caucus to this end, vowed that it would not allow any form of authoritarianism or dictatorship in President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
