OrderPaperToday – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara has assured Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the country that everything humanly possible will be done to address their plights while in camp.
Dogara gave the assurance on Thursday while on a visit to one of the camps located in Wassa, a community under the Abuja Municipal Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
While lamenting the plight of IDPs, Speaker Dogara said plans are already afoot in the House through a bill on alleviating the devastation caused by boko haram.
”We want to translate our promises to law so as to remain permanent for the future”, he said.
Various foodstuffs like 600 bags of millet, 550 bags of maize, 500 bags of rice and beans, 100 cans of vegetable oil as well as 700 pieces of clothing materials amongst other useful items to be shared among IDPs in Wassa, Waru Karu and Kuje area council was donated by the Speaker during the visit and was received by chairman of the Wassa IDP camp, Hamman Bukar.
Bukar in his earlier remark called on government to provide a healthy and conducive environment for all IDP camps in the country adding that teachers should be sent to them to teach their children in the camps.
