OrderPaperToday – Immediate past senate president and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) David Mark and his challenger in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Daniel Onjeh have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be firm in the announcement of results for the Benue South senatorial election ongoing.
Both men made the call after casting their votes at the Otukpo Club polling unit for Mark and Ogbadibo polling unit for Onjeh respectively.
Speaking to Journalists Mark appealed to INEC to conduct transparent, free and fair elections by ensuring that every vote counted at the end of the day.
According to former senate president, the electoral umpire should be courageous and declare the winner of the polls no matter the prevailing circumstances.
He also commended the people of the senatorial district for coming out enmasse to cast their votes while appealing to his supporters to be calm in spite of provocations and eschew violence.
In same manner, Onjeh,who voted at about 11:30 a.m, commended the voters for turning out enmasse to participate in the election.
Reports say accreditation and voting are ongoing simultaneously in all polling units across the nine local governments of Benue South Senatorial district amidst tight security.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports a massive turn out of voters in Otukpo Local Government, the political base of Sen. David Mark and Mr. Onjeh respectively.
Both accreditation and voting reportedly started between 9a.m. and 9.30a.m across the district.
