OrderPaperToday – A member of the National Assembly, Sen. Abdulfatai Buhari (APC Oyo North) has called on the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele to resign over his alleged role in the arms cash saga.
Sen. Buhari, a member of the Appropriation Committee of the Senate told journalists on Wednesday that the CBN governor should have long resigned by now if he was a decent public official.
He insisted that the role played by the CBN in allegedly disbursing part of the money for arms purchase to fight boko haram was enough reason for the governor to resign.
He said: “In a decent democracy or in an advanced country, you do not need anybody to tell you to resign or for somebody to call for your resignation, that is what you will do”
On economic and monetary policy management the senator said Emefiele has fallen short of expectations.
“He is not doing what he is supposed to be doing for the country so what else, we have a lot of competent hands that can be able to reach there,” he said.
According to him, “as of today dollar is almost N300 to a dollar for Christ’s so what are we talking about? Economy is not something you do as a crash, you must have your policy; what are the things you want to do, what are the things you ought to do, what are the way to do what you ought to do.
“These are simple things but in this country we neglect them and at the end of the day you will now realize that we will be changing policy.
“Until we reach the level where people will be able to stand on principle and say `to hell, I am not doing it, I will resign’ when you ask them to do something against their country.
“The opinion of I will stay there, I will be there for life, they continue committing blunders, they continue to perpetrate things that are inimical to their country.”
