Akpabio implored the American government to continue to play the role of big brother to the world as that is what is needed.

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has advocated for increased cooperation between the United States and Nigeria.

Akpabio made the call on Tuesday while addressing a delegation from the American embassy in Nigeria, led by the Chargé d’affaires, David Greene.

He emphasised the important role the United States plays in spreading democracy and democratic principles around the globe, while also realising that occasionally, Americans must bear the greatest sacrifice.

The Senate President asked the American government to continue acting as the world’s big brother since the oldest democracy is what the world needs.

“I am a believer in the American democracy and I ask that you continue to offer assistance to Nigeria and other countries as we walk our way up the ladder of democracy.”

Earlier, Greene said his team is looking to work together with the Nigerian Senate on a number of fronts.

“We came here today to pay a courtesy call on the Senate President to congratulate him and also in hopes that we can find ways to work together for the collective good of the Nigerian people.”

The visit ended with the exchange of souvenirs by the host and the visitors.
