Two Abia state reps, Kalu in the House and Kalu in the Senate, lead in sponsoring resurrected bills in the first year of the 10th NASS
The 1st year of the 10th National Assembly saw a high rate of bills that were presented or considered in previous assemblies but were not passed. These bills could be easily referred to as resurrected or recycled bills.
Following a well curated analysis carried out by OrderPaper, a total of 386 bills in the House of Representatives were resurrected from the previous assembly, making up 32.8% of a total of 1175 in the House.
More details from our analysis shows that out of 104 bills sponsored by Abia members, Rep. Kalu Benjamin (APC, Abia) sponsored 85 bills of which 36 are resurrected bills, making him the highest sponsor of resurrected bills in the House of Representatives. Of this 36 resurrected bills, 2.8 percent were adjourned for consideration, 2.8 percent were passed, 16.7 percent were transmitted to senate for concurrence, 11.1 percent are awaiting consideration, 13.8% are awaiting report and 52.8 percent are awaiting 2nd reading.

Similarly, out of 257 resurrected bills in the Senate, second term senator, Orji Uzor Kalu sponsored 10 resurrected bills out of a total of 12 which he sponsored in the 10th Senate making him the highest sponsor of resurrected bills in the Senate. It is also important to note that 100% of all these bills sponsored by Uzor Kalu are still at first reading stage.
Meanwhile, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe sponsored only one bill while 1st term senator, Augustine Akobundu sponsored 5 bills.
In the House, Reps Alexander Ikwechegh, Ogah Godwin and Alozie Ikechi sponsored zero bill while Reps Ibe Osonwa and Onwusibe Obinna sponsored two bills each. Reps Nkwonta Chris and Aguocha Obinna sponsored 3 and 12 bills respectively.
