Anambra state saw a rather discouraging performance from its female members in the House of Representatives.
Over the years, there has been an increased call for female participation in politics in order to achieve global gender inequality and genuine democracy. However, Anambra being one of the states having female lawmakers, saw a rather discouraging performance from its female members in the House of Representatives.
In order for citizens to keep tab on the performance of lawmakers through data driven insights, OrderPaper conducted a detailed analysis of the 10th assembly’s first year which shows that out of the 3 females in the House who happen to be first term members, only Orogbu Obiageli sponsored 2 bills between June 2023 and May 2024 while both Nnabuife Clara and Gwacham Chinwe sponsored zero bills.
Other members who sponsored no bill include Reps Peter Aniekwe, Peter Uzokwe and Ogene Afamefuna while Ozodinobi George and Emeka Obiajulu sponsored one bill each. Also Reps Okafor Dominic and Okonkwo Uchenna sponsored 3 and 9 bills respectively.

On the other hand, with the highest number of sponsored bills in the House, first term member, Agbodike Paschal has a total of 23 bills under the aviation, education, law enforcement, maritime, security, governance and public administration sector.

In the Senate, Late Ifeanyi Ubah before his death sponsored 3 bills, all still at first reading stage. While first term senator, Tony Nwoye sponsored 10 bills, second term senator, Victor Umeh failed to sponsor a single bill.
