Godswill Akpabio has disclosed that the Senate will approve the proposal for the purchase whenever it is brought to their table.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has stated that no matter the anticipatory blackmail from the public, the Senate will approve the purchase of Presidential jets when requested to do so. “If Mr President’s vehicle is bad, we will repair the vehicle. If his plane is bad, we will approve money for the repair of the plane.”

According to him, the Vice President of Malawi likewise the President of Iran died as a result of a defective plane and the Nigerian Senate will not let that happen.

Akpabio further claimed that the blackmails were misrepresented to suggest that he declared the Senate would never grant any request made by President Tinubu. He said, “We care about the president. We care about the Nigerian people. We will approve things that will benefit the Nigerian people. We will approve things that would improve the living standard of the people.”

The Senate expressed its condolences to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) over the passing of Deputy-Comptroller, Etop Andrew Essien at the National Assembly. The Senate also held a minute silence in honour of the late Deputy Comptroller. Essien died while he was making a presentation before the House Committee on Public Accounts on Tuesday.

  • Tinubu requests Senate’s approval of PSC nominees 

Three nominees have been sent by President Tinubu for review and confirmation for the positions of Chairman, Secretary, and Police Service Commission (PSC) member. This development coincides with the PSC’s ongoing legal dispute with the Inspector-General, Nigerian Police Force, Kayode Egbetokun, over alleged meddling in constable recruitment. The PSC nominees are: Hashim Argungu -chairman, Onyema Uche – secretary, and retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Taiwo Lakanu as member. The request was immediately referred to the Senate Committee on Police Affairs for further legislative work to report back in one week.

  • Tinubu seeks Senate’s confirmation of Tunji Bello as FCCPC boss

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the Senate to consider and confirm the nomination of Dr Olatunji Bello for appointment as the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Vice Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). Bello’s nomination was referred to the Senate Committee for Trade and Investment to report back in one week.
