The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Emomotimi Agama as the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

This is as it confirmed the appointments of Samiya Hassan Usman as executive commissioner (corporate services), Abimbola Oyebola Ajomale as executive commissioner (operations) and Frank  Chukwuogor as executive commissioner (legal and enforcement).

The confirmation of these appointments, followed the consideration of a report by the Committee on Capital Markets during Thursday’s plenary.

OrderPaper recalls that President Bola Tinubu had on 15 May, 2024 requested the Senate to carry out an expeditious screening and confirmation process.

The request  was immediately referred to the committee on Capital Market to report back in 2 weeks.

Presenting the report, the chairman of the committee, Senator Osita Izunaso (APC, Imo West) said the nominees had been screen by the committee and they had all met the necessary requirements.

He said, “They were eminently qualified for the positions. They passed all security checks and answered relevant questions during the screening.”

Following the presentation of the report, senators voted in confirmation of all nominees.

The Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau thereafter urged the appointees to carry out their jobs diligently for the betterment of the country.

They should do their work in the best way they can to turn around the economy of Nigeria,” he said.

“They should try not to let Mr President down or the nation. They should do their best to use that institution to promote the wellbeing of this country.”
